Shrimp and Grits - are there any three more beautiful words ? Everyone in the south has their own way of making their dish and also the interpretation of the origin of this dish. The faithful readers of this site will recognize my love affair with grits and the many different ways of preparing them. I do not want to brag but I have won over quite a few grits haters.
For Mothers Day this year we were going over to Ann's parents house for brunch. My French mother in law was preparing Goose and we were tasked with providing an appetizer. I wanted something light but yet filling in case the my stomach was not up for eating a goose. I had been going back and forth in my mind trying to think of something new I could do but I kept coming up with nothing. Then it hit me - Shrimp and Grits, although not new I did have a new sauce I had read about that would go perfect with this dish.
I was visiting one of my daily reads when I came across a New Orleans take on Chicken and Waffles. The accompanying sauce seemed pretty easy to make and it made sense to me to pair it with the shrimp and grits. You can find the inspiration HERE.
The only change I made to it was to add about 3-4 crushed garlic cloves while steeping the rosemary and the syrup. The recipe as a whole is pretty easy to make and not that time consuming.
You can find different variations of Shrimp and Grits over on the Food network site or at one of my new favorite recipe finders - Foodie View . The rosemary cane syrup is also great as a glaze for a grilled steak.

This looks and sounds wonderful, a new twist on an old favorite. But remember here in the South, grits has two syllables (Gree-uts!)

I've only had grits once when I visited the US and that was in a Waffle House so I think I probably need re-educating! Those served there were pretty awful! Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe!
